Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is closely monitoring the situation of Bangladeshis affected by a missile attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, which has reportedly killed 12 people, including two Bangladeshis.
Sources at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the Bangladesh Embassy in Riyadh was in contact with Saudi authorities to gather information about the victims and assess the situation.
A foreign ministry official said Bangladeshis who escaped unharmed had been relocated to two hotels. The prime minister is keeping a close watch on developments, the official added.
According to sources, a group of 41 Bangladeshi Umrah pilgrims were waiting at the airport to travel from Riyadh to Jeddah when an explosion rocked the terminal.
Two of those killed have been identified as Bangladeshis, but their identities were not immediately available. Eleven people remain missing, and officials suspect the death toll could rise.
The pilgrims are reportedly teachers at Jamia Arabia Rabiul Ulum, a madrasa in Kamrangirchar, Dhaka.
Several others were injured and are receiving treatment at local hospitals. The exact number of casualties remains unconfirmed.
